Is Ancient Philosophy Still Relevant?
Short Answer: Yes
Long Answer
We live in a world that is becoming increasingly polarising. And we're forced to choose a side, whether we wholly agree with it or not.
Our attention is now a commodity. The thoughts and beliefs we have are being moulded by social media. On top of that, we're seeing cultures that are always clashing and you feel obliged to pick a side.
But yet, when we look at ancient history, this is nothing new.
As humans, we are drawn to certain individuals who have the most influence over the course of our lives. And some of these individuals were polarising in their own right.
For example, Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongolian empire, was ruthless and massacred countless people who opposed him as he conquered central Asia. And yet, Genghis Khan had admirers in Medieval Europe and during the Renaissance as his empire brought many innovations and artistic ideas.
The truth is, we are always going to be influenced by something or someone, but we do have a choice as to who we can look up to. And this is where we can turn to Ancient Philosophy.
So, yes, Ancient Philosophy is still very much relevant today.
Learning from the Ancients
Here at Dharmic Stoic, I share how Dharma, which includes Hindu & Buddhist philosophy, Taoism and Stoicism have greatly influenced my life.
The main thing that I have learned from all of these ancient philosophies is that rather than being influenced by an external source, we should look within ourselves to find our true path. In essence, we should trust ourselves more.
Who is Behind Dharmic Stoic?
Hello, my name is David M. Parag (a pseudonym) and I am a full-time copywriter and I'm the founder of Dharmic Stoic.
I have created this space to share how ancient philosophy has influenced my life and how it can determine ideas and topics currently trending in the modern world.
I am not a guru, saint or spiritual teacher. I write this blog to entertain, inspire and share what I have learned from studying ancient philosophy and how it can be applied to everyday life.
By no means, I am not an authority on the topics I write about on this blog. But I do my best to write content that's well-researched.
